The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric has been named ‘Electric Car of the Year’ at the TopGear.com EV Awards 2026, securing a second consecutive victory for Renault in the competition’s headline category.
The award builds on the success of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, which claimed the same title last year, underlining the consistency of Renault’s approach to compact, accessible electric vehicles.
After extensive evaluation, TopGear.com’s judges highlighted the Twingo E-Tech electric’s intelligent simplicity, lightweight approach and standout efficiency, alongside its distinctive character and everyday usability.
Explaining the decision, Paul Horrell, Consultant Editor of TopGear.com, said: “The Twingo’s cleverness is it brings cheapness through strategies that don’t make it a chore to use. It’s refined and comfortable and good to drive. Crucially, as our era demands, it’s green, cheap and radiates optimism like the original did back in the 1990s.”
Known effacingly as ‘Le Frog’ thanks to its striking front end design, Renault Twingo E-Tech electric combines a compact, city-ready footprint with technology and features typically associated with larger segments. A lively 60kW electric motor and 27.5kWh LFP battery prioritise efficiency and low running costs, while One Pedal driving and the availability of OpenR Link with Google built-in support effortless day-to-day driving.
Inside, sliding rear seats enhance flexibility and maximise usable space, reinforcing Twingo’s focus on everyday practicality. Its distinctive design and cheerful character ensure it stands apart in the A-segment, bringing personality as well as purpose to the small electric car market.

The Twingo E-Tech electric’s UK debut marks the next step in Renault’s electric product offensive, following the successful launches of the multi-award-winning Renault 4 E-Tech electric and Renault 5 E-Tech electric.
