The Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘Plein Sud’ with its distinctive full-length electric opening canvas roof is now available to order in the UK, with prices starting from £27,445 OTR after the Electric Car Grant.
Available in techno+ and iconic+ trim levels, the ‘Plein Sud’ version adds a new open-air dimension to Renault’s fully electric reinvention of one of its most iconic models, while retaining the practicality and versatility that have come to define the multi-award-winning Renault 4 E-Tech electric.
A contemporary interpretation of a signature feature of the original Renault 4, the electrically operated ‘Plein Sud’ canvas roof brings the spirit of open-top versatility into the modern era.
It also brings something entirely unique to its segment, being the only electric car in its segment that offers a fully opening roof.
The two-level specification mirrors that of the fixed-roof version, with the only differences being the necessary removal of roof bars and the shark-fin antenna on ‘Plein Sud’ models, in order to maximise the opening.
Like the Renault 4-Tech electric it is based on, the Plein Sud version also qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. It joins the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric in attracting the maximum ECG, while the entire Renault electric passenger car range is also eligible for ECG support.
R Pass customers can order from today, securing their position as one of the first to take delivery, with the wider public able to order from 14th May.
Modern open-air experience, designed for everyday use
The ‘Plein Sud’ canvas roof has been engineered to deliver the joy of open-air driving without compromising refinement or practicality. Operated via a one-touch button or voice control using Renault’s Reno digital assistant, the roof opens smoothly to create a wide 80x92cm aperture, allowing both front and rear passengers to enjoy an open, panoramic view of the sky above.
The canvas roof, which gathers cleanly into three folds, can be opened in several intermediate positions to suit the occupants’ mood. When closed, its multi-layer construction ensures excellent acoustic and sealing qualities with no trade-off in weight, while there is also minimal impact on headroom compared to the fixed-roof version.
Everyday practicality remains at the core
Unlike traditional canvas roof systems, the mechanism has been designed to preserve the Renault 4 E-Tech electric’s generous luggage capacity. Boot space remains unchanged at up to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded, ensuring the same versatility that has already earned praise from customers and industry experts alike.
A low loading sill of 607mm and a wide-opening tailgate (power-operated on iconic+ models) make access easy, while thoughtful storage solutions support day-to-day convenience.
With up to 181mm of ground clearance and suspension optimised for a smoother, more comfortable ride, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric continues the original Renault 4’s sense of go-anywhere practicality.
Inside, the OpenR Link system with 10” central touchscreen and Google built-in provides seamless connectivity, including Google Maps navigation with charging optimisation and access to a wide range of apps. This is paired with a 10.3” digital instrument display for a full range of driving information.
Efficient electric performance
All versions continue to use a 52kWh battery and 150hp electric motor, offering a driving range of up to 242 miles (WLTP) depending on specification.
| MODEL | POWER (kW/hp) | TORQUE (Nm) | BATTERY CAPACITY (kWh) | WLTP RANGE (miles) | CONSUMPTION (kWh/62 miles) | 0-62mph (secs) | TOP SPEED (mph) |
| Renault 4 E-Tech electric 150hp comfort range canvas roof | 110/150 | 245 | 52 | 242 | 15.8 - 15.9 | 8.2 | 93 |
Rapid charging capability of up to 100kW DC enables a 15–80% charge in approximately 30 minutes, helping to make longer journeys simple and convenient.
One-pedal driving functionality, standard on both techno+ and iconic+ ‘Plein Sud’ models, further enhances ease of use, particularly in urban environments.
Enhanced safety and driver assistance
With the introduction of the ‘Plein Sud’ version, Renault 4 E-Tech electric also incorporates the latest GSR2.3 safety standard. This brings the total number of advanced driver assistance systems available to up to 28, further strengthening safety and driver support across the range.
A new advanced driver monitoring system uses a camera installed in the windscreen pillar to detect driver fatigue, with alertness included in the Safety Score displayed after each journey.
The new emergency stop assist function works in conjunction with active driver assist, slowing the vehicle to a stop where possible if the driver becomes inactive. The eco-driving assistant, meanwhile, is now predictive, using onboard maps to analyse the road ahead so as to warn of upcoming bends, roundabouts, etc., allowing the driver to ease off the accelerator to save energy.
