The Renault 4 E-Tech electric is one of seven finalists shortlisted for the prestigious Car of the Year 2026 award.
A jury made up of 57 journalists from 23 countries tested and assessed a total of 35 vehicles before shortlisting the seven finalists. The winner will succeed Scenic E-Tech electric, winner in 2024, and Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Alpine A290, winners in 2025. Results will be announced on 9 January 2026 at the Brussels Motor Show.
For the fifth consecutive year, Renault has a model among the seven finalists, underlining the relevance of its range renewal strategy:
“We are very proud that the Renault 4 E-Tech electric has been selected among the seven finalists for the Car of the Year award. It’s a great recognition of all its strengths. The R4 is an electric car designed to meet all everyday needs. In short, it’s a modern and truly popular electric car, and it’s already winning over customers: it’s currently the number one electric B-SUV on the French market, an impressive achievement in a segment that’s just entering its electrification phase. And this is only the beginning: more versions are coming soon, including a canvas-roof version and many more surprises to come”

The most versatile compact electric vehicle
Renault 4 E-Tech electric taps into the DNA of the original model to reinvent itself as a versatile compact car. All-electric and connected, it is every inch a voiture à vivre and, more than that, a car ready to go anywhere, every day.
Featuring a retro-futuristic design that will appeal to the greatest number, it is ready for adventure. With its modular layout, load length of 2.20m and boot capacity of 420 litres, it adapts to all needs. The tailgate extends down to the bumper for a load sill that is just 61 cm high, 10 cm lower than the competition on average, and a record achievement! Renault 4 E-Tech electric also features Extended Grip and a towing capacity of 750 kg. This lets drivers travel comfortably on all types of roads, for all types of journey.
At the same time, Renault 4 E-Tech electric is packed with technology, whether for safety with the ADAS, or as part of the driving and onboard experience with OpenR Link and Google built-in. This system ships with over 100 apps and practical services, as well as Reno, the official Renault avatar, based on ChatGPT. All these features are set to make it the go-to electric compact car of a new generation!
Renault 4 E-Tech electric launched first in France last June. It is now gradually being rolled out across Europe, including in the UK in a right-hand drive version.
Two motor and battery options are available: urban range with a 90 kW motor and 40 kWh battery for a range of up to 308 km; and comfort range with a 110 kW motor and 52 kWh battery for a range of up to 409 km. Fleet and Fleet Van versions tailored to the business requirements of self-employed people, delivery firms, service companies and fleets, are also available, depending on the country.
The vehicle is assembled in northern France at Maubeuge, the motor at the Cléon site and the battery pack in Ruitz, while the battery itself recently went into production at the Gigafactory at Douai.

Alongside Renault 4 E-Tech electric, the other finalists for Car of the Year 2026 are the Citroen C5 Aircross, Dacia Bigster, Fiat Grande Panda, Kia EV4, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Renault 4 and Skoda Elroq.
This strong competition shows the regard in which Renault 4 E-Tech electric is held on the market.
For over twelve years, Renault has sought to bring electric mobility within everybody’s reach. Following Megane E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric on the C segment, Renault extended its offering to the B segment with Renault 5 E-Tech electric in 2024, followed by Renault 4 E-Tech electric in 2025. Today, it is preparing to unveil Twingo E-Tech electric, an uncompromising city car for the A segment.
