Common Questions & Answers Below

You will now be aware; The UK Government has asked that all UK citizens and businesses take all necessary precautions to protect the most vulnerable in our society. This is to ensure that our NHS can prepare for the increasing number of patients that will be affected by Coronavirus in the coming days.
Observing government requests and for these reasons, all Batchelors Motor Group Showrooms & Workshops are now temporarily closed to customers and not open for business after Tuesday 24th March 2020.

We will look to support our customers with essential repairs and MOT’s. Our technicians will be working on a ‘call up’ and socially responsible basis. It is important for us to make sure that our customers that are key workers, in so far as possible, remain with essential transport and subject to availability we will provide our existing customer base with free of charge loan & hire cars until the 14th April 2020, if a repair cannot be actioned. (subject to availability, terms and conditions apply) For key workers requiring unavoidable and urgent maintenance work on your vehicle please email

We will also continue to support customers and our customer service team will be on hand, during usual business hours via Live chat, email, WhatsApp, Facebook etc. We also have a buy online option on our website, where you can browse, buy or reserve a car online ready for when we re-open. We aim to maintain our high standards of response time to you but occasionally there may be delays so please bear with us.
I would like to thank my fantastic team for their dedication over the last few days in particular, as we have together navigated our way through this challenge and formulated a plan to ensure our ‘’TLC not PLC’’ motto remains consistent in the weeks ahead. This is a situation that I, my team and you have not had to deal with before. Hopefully, we will never see such a thing again.

Whether it by our website, Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp we will keep you updated on everything our teams are doing to help keep you on the road. You might even see the odd tip or two and some interesting insight as to how we are dealing with self-isolation too.
Thank you very much for your continued to support and custom. We couldn’t be Batchelors without you. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you to our showrooms again soon.

Questions & Answers

My MOT is due, what should I do?

The first thing to do is try not to worry, here is the detail.

There is updated and different guidance depending on when your MOT is due to expire.

First check when your MoT is due to expire here
If your MoT is due before the 30th March follow this link
If your MoT is due from the 30th March follow this link

In some circumstances: Cars, motorcycles and vans will all be subject to a temporary six-month MoT exemption in an effort to maintain essential travel during the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.

The exemption will come into play from March 30th  but the DfT said that motorists still have a duty to keep their vehicles “in a roadworthy condition”.

Drivers can still be prosecuted if driving unsafe vehicles, so remember to examine the items you can realistically easily check. For example Tyres, Lights, Horn, Wipers.

If you believe your car might not be roadworthy. Please do not drive it on a public road.
If you are a NHS Keyworker and need help please get in touch.

My Road Tax (RFL) is due on the 1st April and I cannot tax my car because the website says my MOT will be invalid. The website does not work. Whay should I do?

We're getting a lot of calls about this,

If your cars MOT expires on or before 31st March. The DVLA & DVSA systems will be reset on the 30th March. As soon as this is done you should (fingers crossed) be able to tax your car. You will not be able to apply for vehicle tax before the 30th. Unfortunately, if your car was due an MoT before the 30th March your MoT will not be extended and you will not be able to tax your car.
If you are an NHS Keyworker and need help please get in touch.

I’ve broken down, what do I do?

We are really sorry. Here’s what we can do

If you are a Keyworker contact us via the email above. We have set aside our entire available Courtesy Car, Demonstrator and Hire Car Fleet to keep you on the road. However, we will be allocating to the most needy cases and sadly we may have to disappoint someone. Our technicians are also on ‘call up’ for extreme circumstances. If you are not Keyworker our advice would be to ring the AA, RAC or similar. The number for Mitsubishi & Suzuki recovery is in your vehicle wallet.

My car was booked in with you for repair?

Again don’t worry

We will have tried to contact you to rearrange.

If you ring us there is a call divert in place but it is becoming a challenge for us to deal with the call volume. Do not visit us, we are not at work and your journey would not be classed as essential travel.

The best contact methods are via LiveChat or the links on this website.

You can book service, repair and MOT online from the 14th April. This being the date that we hope to be allowed to reopen.

We expect to be allowed 1000 miles / 1-month leeway with regards to service due dates for warranty purposes.

We will update this as soon as we know.

I was due to collect my new or used car within the next three weeks?

Try not to be too disappointed

Your car is safe and locked up in our compound or indoors. We will commence handovers as soon as we are allowed to do so. Hopefully, this will be mid-April.

My car is on Motability and my lease is coming to an end, What do I do?

It's all taken care of. This is from the Motability website.

If you are coming to the end of your lease, Motability will automatically extend this for six months. There will be no need to contact us or them and you will continue to be insured.

If you plan to leave the Scheme at the end of your lease, contact Motability so they can discuss arrangements.

At this time we are unable to process any further orders or new applications to the Scheme.

What about repairs and servicing?

Non-essential service, maintenance and repairs are likely to be cancelled as we are closed, but the RAC will continue to offer an emergency breakdown service. Royal and SunAlliance Motability (RASM) will be able to handle claims, but please be prepared for longer calling times than usual.
